Citi Open: Michelsen advances to quarter-finals

American Alex Michelsen, the No 15 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Citi Open by beating qualifier Seong-Chan Hong 6-3, 6-3 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.

Michelsen, ranked No 60, will play Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 10 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the 19-year-old American won against Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci (6-3, 7-6 (1)).

Hong, ranked No 175, won against Australian Adam Walton (7-6 (6), 7-6 (4)) and Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 3 seed (6-2, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Washington D.C. tournament.
