Humbert withdraws, sending Dimitrov into Citi Open semi-finals
Grigor Dimitrov benefited from the forfeit of Ugo Humbert on Friday night
Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 5 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Citi Open after Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 13 seed, withdrew before the match at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Friday afternoon.
Humbert cited a left leg injury as the reason for his withdrawal from the Citi Open.
In the previous rounds of the Washington D.C. tournament, Humbert, ranked No 36, played two contrasting matches, winning an epic against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-4) before powering past Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki in a little over an hour (6-0, 6-2).
Dimitrov, ranked No 20, beat American Mackenzie McDonald (7-6 (6), 6-2) and Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-4, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
