Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 10 seed, won against Belgian David Goffin 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the last 16 of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
Cobolli, ranked No 48, will play Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 8 seed, next.
Goffin, ranked No 100, beat Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli (6-2, 7-5) in the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament.
