Rublev rolls into quarter-finals at Cincinnati Masters
Andrey Rublev took care of Brandon Nakashima in straight sets on Friday in Cincinnati. Rublev awaits either Jannik Sinner or Jordan Thompson in the quarter-finals.
Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, defeated American wild card Brandon Nakashima 7-6 (5), 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
This continues a stellar hard-court summer for Rublev, who finished runner-up at the Montreal Masters this past week. The Russian also defeated Nakashoma in the third round that tournament (6-2, 6-2).
Rublev, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between top-seeded Italian Jannik Sinner and Australia’s Jordan Thompson. He previously knocked off China’s Zhizhen Zhang (6-4, 6-3) in Cincinnati.
In the previous rounds this week, Nakashima — ranked No 4 — edged out No 11 seed Taylor Fritz (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4)) and Frenchman Arthur Fils (7-5, 7-6 (3)).
