Australian lucky loser Alexei Popyrin edged out German lucky loser Daniel Altmaier 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Cincinnati Masters at the Linder Tennis Family Center.
Popyrin, ranked No 58, will play Chilean Nicolas Jarry next.
