Norrie ends Shelton’s run at Cincinnati Masters
Cameron Norrie cruises past American wild card Ben Shelton in straight sets on Thursday in Cincinnati. Norrie will face Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals.
No 9 seed Cameron Norrie beat American wild card Ben Shelton 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the last eight of the Cincinnati Masters at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Friday night.
Norrie, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Croat Marin Čilić, the No 14 seed, and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, next.
It was still a breakout tournament for Shelton, ranked No 229, who upset Lorenzo Sonego 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-5 and then stunned No 5 seed Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3. The University of Florida star will climb into the top 200 on Monday.
