Fritz gets retirement from Lajovic in Cincinnati third round
Taylor Fritz got past Dusan Lajovic via first-set retirement in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters on Thursday. Fritz awaits either Novak Djokovic or Gael Monfils in the quarter-finals.
American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed, reached the last eight of the Western & Southern Open when Serb qualifier Dusan Lajovic retired at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Thursday.
Fritz, ranked No 9, led 5-0 when Lajovic called it quits.
The American will face the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils.
Fritz defeated Jiri Lehecka (7-6 (14), 6-2) and Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-4, 7-6 (1)) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Lajovic beat Francisco Cerundolo (6-3, 6-4) and Jannik Sinner, the No 8 seed (6-4, 7-6 (4)).
