Fritz outlasts Rublev, into Cincinnati Masters quarter-finals
Taylor Fritz gets the best of 2021 runner-up Andrey Rublev in three tight sets on Thursday at the Cincinnati Masters. Daniil Medvedev could be next for Fritz in the quarter-finals.
Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz’s best season on tour saw him find additional success on Thursday afternoon at the Western & Southern Open, where he beat Andrey Rublev 6-7(4), 6-2, 7-5 to book a quarter-final spot. Fritz needed two hours and two hours and 32 minutes to advance.
It has not been an easy draw for Fritz, who had already defeated Sebastian Baez and Nick Kyrgios — both in straight sets. Now the world No 13 awaits either top seed Daniil Medvedev or Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
