Alcaraz reaches Cincinnati last 16 with 50th win of the season, gets rematch with Paul

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, reached the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters by defeating Australian qualifier Jordan Thompson 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Wednesday.
Alcaraz is the fourth player since 2000 to achieve consecutive 50-win seasons before turning 21, after Lleyton Hewitt (2000-01), Andy Roddick (2002-03) and Rafael Nadal (2005-06).
Alcaraz, ranked No 1, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Ugo Humbert and American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Cincy Open, Thompson, ranked No 55, won against American wildcard John Isner (7-6 (5), 7-6 (2)).
