China Open: Sinner comes through testing encounter with Dan Evans to reach the second round
Jannik Sinner beat Daniel Evans 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 and will play the winner of the match between Juncheng Shang and Yoshihito Nishioka in the next round
Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 6 seed, advanced to the second round of the China Open by winning against Daniel Evans 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.
The Italian was tested by a spirited Evans fightback in the second set, as Sinner had led 5-3 in the second stanza.
Ultimately, the World No 7’s quality shone through, and Sinner earned his first win since his defeat to Alexander Zverev in the US Open earlier this month.
Sinner will play the winner of the match between Chinese wildcard Juncheng Shang and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka next.
