China Open: Ruud recovers to overcome Etcheverry and book spot in quarter-finals
Casper Ruud edged out Tomas Martin Etcheverry 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7) and will play the winner of the match between Alcaraz and Musetti in the next round
Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed, moved into the last eight of the China Open by edging out Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7) at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.
Ruud, ranked No 9, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Italian Lorenzo Musetti next.
Ahead of his victory, the Norwegian won against German Jan-Lennard Struff (7-6 (5), 6-3).
Etcheverry, ranked No 31, beat South African qualifier Lloyd Harris (6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-3) in the previous round of the Beijing tournament.
