China Open: Musetti knocks out Zhuhai champion Khachanov to reach second round

Italian Lorenzo Musetti moved into the second round of the China Open by defeating Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.

The Russian’s defeat comes just a few days after he won his first career title in nearly five years by winning the Zhuhai Open.

For Musetti, a tough win over Khachanov marks continued steady form after reaching the last four at the Chengdu Open last week.

Musetti, ranked No 18, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann next.
