Medvedev downs De Minaur to move into the quarter-finals
Medvedev beat Alex De Minaur 7-6 (3), 6-3 and will face the winner of the match between Andrey Rublev and Ugo Humbert in the next round
Russian Daniil Medvedev, the second seed, won against Australian Alex De Minaur 7-6 (3), 6-3 to advance to the last eight of the China Open at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.
Medvedev, ranked No 3, will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, and Frenchman Ugo Humbert next.
Ahead of his victory, the Russian beat American Tommy Paul (6-2, 6-1).
De Minaur, ranked No 12, edged out Andy Murray (6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (6)) in the previous round of the Beijing tournament.
