China Open: Lehecka fights back to reach quarters
Jiri Lehecka won against Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 on Saturday night. He’ll face the winner of the match between Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, and Russian lucky loser Roman Safiullin in the next round
Jiri Lehecka reached the quarter-finals of the China Open by winning against Spanish qualifier Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing on Saturday.
Bautista Agut pushed Lehecka on the backfoot by securing the opening set with the help of a break in the fourth game.
In the following two sets, however, the Czech converted four break points to seal the win. He ended the match in prime fashion by serving an ace as the proceedings crossed 100 minutes on the clock.
Lehecka, ranked No 37, will play the winner of the match between Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, and Russian lucky loser Roman Safiullin next.
Jiri Lehecka beat Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero (7-6 (4), 6-2) in the previous round of the Beijing tournament.
During the first round of the Beijing tournament, Bautista Agut, ranked No 61, won against French lucky loser Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 6-4).
