Alcaraz outmuscles Ruud to clinch semi-final spot in Beijing

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, reached the semi-finals of the China Open by winning against Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed, 6-4, 6-2 at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing on Monday.
Alcaraz, ranked No 2, will play the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 6 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the 20-year-old Spaniard beat German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann (6-4, 6-3) and Italian Lorenzo Musetti (6-2, 6-2).
Ruud, ranked No 9, defeated German Jan-Lennard Struff (7-6 (5), 6-3) and edged out Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7)) in the previous rounds of the Beijing tournament.
