Brazilian Thiago Monteiro edged out Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the No 5 seed, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 to move into the second round of the Chile Open at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago on Tuesday.
Monteiro, ranked No 84, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Facundo Bagnis and Italian Marco Cecchinato next.
