Chile Open: Faria edges out Heide to make last eight

Jaime Faria edged out Gustavo Heide 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 6-4 on Wednesday and will face Serb Laslo Djere in the next round

Portuguese Jaime Faria edged out Brazilian qualifier Gustavo Heide 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Chile Open at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Wednesday.

Faria, ranked No 87, will face Serb Laslo Djere next.

The 21-year-old Portuguese defeated Italian Luciano Darderi, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the Santiago tournament.

In the previous round of the Santiago tournament, Heide, ranked No 160, won against Thiago Seyboth Wild (7-5, 6-2).
