Chengdu Open: Safiullin reaches the semi-finals

Russian Roman Safiullin moved into the last 4 of the Chengdu Open when Australian Jordan Thompson retired on Sunday night at the Sichuan International Tennis Center.
Safiullin, ranked No 55, led 7-6 (1), 0-0 when Thompson, ranked No 56, pulled out at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Sunday night.
The Russian will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the second seed, next.
Roman Safiullin defeated American Brandon Nakashima (6-4, 6-4) and No 4 seed Daniel Evans (6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of the Chengdu tournament, the Australian won against No 6 seed Max Purcell (6-2, 7-6 (8)) and Serb Dusan Lajovic (6-1, 7-6 (1)).
