Russian Roman Safiullin won against No 4 seed Daniel Evans 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Chengdu Open at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Friday.
Safiullin, ranked No 55, will face Australian Jordan Thompson next.
The Russian beat American Brandon Nakashima (6-4, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
