Chengdu Open: Hanfmann into last four

German Yannick Hanfmann advanced to the semi-finals of the Chengdu Open by defeating Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero, the No 4 seed, 7-6 (1), 6-2 at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Sunday.

Hanfmann, ranked No 95, will play the winner of the match between Chinese Juncheng Shang and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the second seed, next.

The German won against Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No 7 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Chengdu tournament, Martinez Portero, ranked No 42, won against Australian Aleksandar Vukic (6-3, 6-4).
