German Yannick Hanfmann beat Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki 6-4, 7-6 (4) to reach the second round of the Chengdu Open at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Thursday.
Hanfmann, ranked No 95, will face Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No 7 seed, next.
