Zhuhai Open: Nishioka makes first semi-final since Adelaide

Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 8 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Zhuhai Open by defeating German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 7-5 at the Zhuhai Hengqin International Tennis Centre on Sunday afternoon.
It has been awhile between drinks for the world No 46, who last reached a semi-final in his first tournament of the year at Adelaide 1 in January. Nishioka will play Russian Aslan Karatsev next, who out-hit No 2 seed Cam Norrie in his quarter-final, winning 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).
The Japanese player won against Frenchman Terence Atmane (0-6, 6-4, 6-2) and South African Lloyd Harris (7-6 (4), 7-6 (5)) ahead of his victory. In the previous round of the Zhuhai tournament, Struff, ranked No 23, edged out Chilean Cristian Garin (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).
