Bucharest Open: Seyboth Wild saves five matchpoints to oust Nardi
The Brazilian will face the winner of the match between Italian Luciano Darderi and Argentinian Mariano Navone, the No 5 seed, in the next round
Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild moved into the second round of the Bucharest Open after a dramatic win over Italian Luca Nardi in which he saved five matchpoints.
Seyboth Wild and Nardi split the first two sets before the Italian went up a break to lead 5-3 in the final set. The Italian earned five matchpoints on the Brazilian’s serve in the ninth game but Wild saved each of those even as Nardi suffered a nasty fall in that game, which hampered him for the rest of the match.
Wild eventually held his serve and broke back before eventually winning 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2) at the National Tennis Centre in three hours and 16 minutes.
Seyboth Wild, ranked No 67, will face the winner of the match between Italian Luciano Darderi and Argentinian Mariano Navone, the No 5 seed, next.
