Brisbane Open: Thompson reaches last eight, Dimitrov next
Jordan Thompson won against Alex Michelsen 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday and will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the second seed, in the next round
Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 8 seed, defeated American Alex Michelsen 7-5, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the Brisbane Open at the Queensland Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Thompson, ranked No 26, will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the second seed, next.
The Australian edged out Italian Matteo Berrettini (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the Brisbane tournament. Michelsen, ranked No 41, edged out Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10)) before wednesday’s loss.
