Brisbane Open: Mensik beats Lajovic to reach quarter-finals

The Czech will play the winner of the match between American Frances Tiafoe, the No 4 seed, and Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the next round

Jakub Mensik moved into the last eight of the Brisbane Open by winning against Serb lucky loser Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-2 at the Queensland Tennis Centre on Thursday.

Mensik, ranked No 48, will face the winner of the match between American Frances Tiafoe, the No 4 seed, and Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard next.

The Czech beat Kazakh qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin (7-6 (3), 6-4) in the previous round of the tournament.

Earlier in the week, Lajovic, ranked No 81, won against Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (6-4, 6-4).
