Australian qualifier James Duckworth edged out German Yannick Hanfmann 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2) to advance to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International on Wednesday night.
This will be the 31-year-old’s second appearance in the Brisbane quarter-finals, having made it this far in 2015 when he lost to Roger Federer.
Duckworth, ranked No 116, will face the winner of the match between Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, and Russian Alexander Shevchenko in the quarter-finals.
Ahead of his victory, the Australian won against American J.J. Wolf (6-3, 6-4). Hanfmann, ranked No 51, beat American Sebastian Korda, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-4) in the previous round.
