Both Alcaraz and Norrie withdraw from Acapulco
Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie, the finalists in Rio de Janeiro, are out of the ATP Acapulco. Both players withdrew on Tuesday.
To the surprise of no one, both Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie withdrew from the Abierto Mexicano Telcel on Tuesday afternoon. Alcaraz and Norrie just faced each other in a grueling Rio Open final on Sunday, won by the Brit 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
Norrie cited fatigue for his Acapulco absence, while the official reason for Alcaraz’s exit was a right hamstring injury. The 19-year-old Spaniard, who also missed the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals and the 2023 Australian Open because of a leg problem, dealt with issues in both of his legs during the Rio de Janeiro tournament. He struggling mightily in the third set against Norrie.
Alcaraz and Norrie were replaced in the ATP Acapulco 500 draw by Luciano Darderi and Elias Ymer, respectively. Darderi will face Mackenzie McDonald in the first round, while Ymer is going up against Adrian Mannarino.
The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is next up on the schedules of Alcaraz and Norrie. Alcaraz reached the semifinals last year in the desert before taking the title in Miami two weeks later; Norrie won Indian Wells in 2021.
