BMW Open: Defending champion Rune back in Munich final
Holger Rune beat Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday. He’ll face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 4 seed, in the final.
Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, reached the final of the BMW Open by defeating Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 6-2 at the MTTC Iphitos complex in Munich on Saturday.
The top seed is into his seventh career tour final as he continues the defence of what was his first-ever ATP title, when he beat Botic van de Zandschulp to lift the trophy.
Rune, ranked No 7, will now play again this time the fourth seed van de Zandschulp for the title.
Earlier in the tournament, the 19-year-old Dane won against German wildcard Yannick Hanfmann (6-3, 6-4) and Chilean Cristian Garin (6-2, 6-4).
O’Connell, ranked No 82, won against Frenchman Ugo Humbert (6-4, 6-4), German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed (7-6 (2), 6-4) and Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Munich Open.
