BMW Open: Fritz sees off Thiem to reach semi-finals in Munich
Taylor Fritz won against Dominic Thiem (6-3, 6-4) on Friday evening, and so qualified for the semi-finals.
American Taylor Fritz, the second seed, moved into the semi-finals of the BMW Open by defeating Austrian Dominic Thiem in two sets (6-3, 6-4) at the MTTC Iphitos complex in Munich on Friday evening.
Fritz, ranked No 10, will face the winner of the match between American Marcos Giron and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 4 seed, next.
Thiem had already had to finish off his previous match, beating Marc-Andrea Huesler in three sets in a match that was held over from the previous day because of rain.
Ahead of his victory, the American won against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).
Thiem, ranked No 101, benefited from the retirement of Frenchman Constant Lestienne (6-3, 0-0) and edged out Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler, the No 8 seed (5-7, 6-4, 6-4) earlier on Friday as the match had been postponed the day before.
