“Beyond what I could have ever dreamed” – Jack Sock announces retirement following US Open
Another player has announced his impending retirement from tennis – the USA’s Jack Sock
Former world No 8 Jack Sock has announced on social media that he will retire from tennis after the US Open.
The American, who will turn 31 in September, ended his campaign early in Flushing Meadows last year due to a back injury, forcing him out mid-match against Diego Schwartzman.
In a post across social media, he wrote: “To the eight-year-old boy who immediately fell in love with the sport of tennis, I hope I made you proud. It’s been 14 years of memories I will never forget. From winning four Grand Slams, Olympic gold and bronze, Top 10 rankings in singles and doubles and competing on the Davis Cup and Laver Cup teams, it’s been beyond what I could’ve ever dreamed.”

Sock has four singles titles on tour, in Houston (2015) and Auckland, Delray Beach and Paris (2017). He also has 17 doubles titles, most notably 2017 Wimbledon (with Vasek Pospisil), 2018 Wimbledon and 2018 US Open followed by the ATP Finals, all with Mike Bryan.
He won an Olympic gold medal with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and bronze medal with Steve Johnson in the men’s doubles in 2016.
Sock made his professional pickleball debut earlier this year, winning the mixed doubles title with world No 1 Anna Leigh Waters at the PPA North Carolina Open.
He said at the time: “PPA was all that I was hoping for, and I’ll definitely be around the scene more at some point in the future.”
