The world No 1 was broken twice in the second set but eased through to a meeting with Federico Coria
World No 1 Novak Djokovic made a confident start to his Belgrade Open title campaign as he beat lucky loser Mats Maraing of Germany 6-2, 7-6 on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old, making a rare competitive outing in the week before a Grand Slam, cruised through the first set but was broken twice by the world No 253 in the second set before taking the tiebreak 7-4 to clinch victory.
Djokovic will face Argentina’s Federico Coria in the quarter-finals.
