Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 14 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Barcelona Open by edging out Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Wednesday.
Thompson, ranked No 33, will face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed, next.
Munar, ranked No 73, won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (6-3, 6-1) in the previous round of the Barcelona tournament.
