Barcelona Open: Nakashima hands Evans third consecutive opening round loss
Nakashima scored a straight sets 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Evans in the first round on Monday
American Brandon Nakashima advanced to the second round of the Barcelona Open by beating Dan Evans 7-6 (5), 6-2 at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Monday.
This was the third consecutive opening round loss for Evans on clay. The Brit was also knocked out in the first round in Marrakech and Monte-Carlo prior to this week, with all those defeats coming in straight sets.
Wit this, Nakashima has now won two of his three matches against Evans on tour.
Nakashima, ranked No 87, will play second seed Andrey Rublev next. The Russian has won their only previous clash on tour – in San Diego on hardcourts in 2021.
