Dane Holger Rune, the No 6 seed, won against Argentinian Sebastian Baez 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to move into the last eight of the Barcelona Open at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.
Rune, ranked No 13, will face the winner of the match between Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, next.
The 21-year-old Dane beat Spanish wildcard Albert Ramos-Vinolas (7-5, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Barcelona tournament, Baez, ranked No 35, defeated Bosnian lucky loser Damir Dzumhur (6-1, 7-5).
