Barcelona Open: Arnaldi makes last eight

Italian Matteo Arnaldi advanced to the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open by beating Argentinian qualifier Marco Trungelliti 6-3, 6-0 at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Thursday.
Arnaldi, ranked No 40, will face the winner of the match between Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 14 seed, and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Barcelona tournament, the Italian benefited from the abandonment of Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (5-5) and won against Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 8 seed (5-7, 7-6 (8), 6-2).
Trungelliti, ranked No 197, defeated Croat qualifier Duje Ajdukovic (6-2, 7-6 (3)) and Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 9 seed (7-6 (5), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
