Baez defeats Darderi, advances to quarter-finals in Buenos Aires
Sebastian Baez beat Luciano Darderi 6-4, 7-5 on Thursday night. He’ll play Argentinian Federico Coria in the next round
Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed, avenged last week’s loss in Cordoba to Italian Luciano Darderi, notching a decisive 6-4, 7-5 triumph to reach the last eight of the Argentina Open at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday night.
“I changed the intensity and the position on the court,” Baez said. “The past week I was so defensive, and today I had to attack more.”
Baez, ranked No 30, will play Argentinian Federico Coria next.
The Argentinian defeated Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles (6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Buenos Aires Open, Darderi, ranked No 76, beat Argentinian qualifier Mariano Navone (6-2, 6-1).
