Back-to-back Adelaide Internationals set to kick off ATP 2022 schedule
The early part of the ATP calendar for 2022 looks to be confirmed
The ATP has confirmed its calendar for the start of January – with four ATP 250 events set to take place in Australia ahead of the Australian Open.
It looks to be much the same principle as the 2021 schedule, to minimise international travel and thus Covid-19 risks before the Grand Slam. Australia has been very cautious during the pandemic and has recently confirmed that only players who have been double-vaccinated will be allowed into the country to compete.
The men’s tour schedule for 2022 will begin with the ATP Cup in Sydney from January 1.
Two ATP 250 events will run simultaneously from January 3, and then two more will take place from January 10. All of them will be on outdoor hard courts, with 28 places in the singles draw.
Adelaide will host two of the tournaments, billed as back-to-back Adelaide Internationals, with a WTA 500 and a WTA 250 also scheduled to take place at the same time.
The Australian Open – the first Grand Slam of the year – begins in Melbourne on January 17.
Last year, the warm-up events took place in Melbourne, billed as the Melbourne Summer Series.
