Auckland Open: Borges through to last four

Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 7 seed, reached the last four of the Auckland Open by edging out Jakub Mensik 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (4) at the ASB Tennis Arena on Thursday.

Borges, ranked No 36, will face Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs next.

The Portuguese edged out Italian Luciano Darderi (5-7, 6-3, 7-5) and Argentinian Mariano Navone (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Auckland tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, Mensik, ranked No 49, edged out Spanish lucky loser Pablo Carreno Busta (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) and American Ben Shelton, the top seed (7-6 (2), 4-6, 7-5).
