ATP rankings: Sinner maintains stronghold over No 1 spot; Cilic rockets over 500 spots

Zhizhen Zhang, Juncheng Shang and Yunchaokete Bu all make big moves inside the top 100

Australian Open and US Open champion Jannik Sinner continues his reign atop the latest ATP rankings as the Italian begins his 16th consecutive week as world No 1. Sinner has a total of 11,180 points, a lead of more than 4,300 points over second-ranked Alexander Zverev, of Germany.

There is no change in this week’s top 10 with Sinner and Zverev followed by Carlos Alcaraz at No 3 and Novak Djokovic at No 4. The top 10 for the week is as follows:

  1. Jannik Sinner – 11,180 points
  2. Alexander Zverev – 6,875 points
  3. Carlos Alcaraz – 6,690 points
  4. Novak Djokovic – 5,560 points
  5. Daniil Medvedev – 5,475 points
  6. Andrey Rublev – 4,645 points
  7. Taylor Fritz – 4,060 points
  8. Hubert Hurkacz – 4,060 points
  9. Casper Ruud – 4,010 points
  10. Grigor Dimitrov – 3,920 points

In the top 20, Frances Tiafoe move up one spot to No 15 and swap places with fellow American Sebastian Korda while Lorenzo Musetti climbs one spot to No 18 after reaching the final in Chengdu.

Another Brandon Nakashima moves up three spots to No 36, a new career-high for the 23-year-old.

Cilic makes rankings leap after Hangzhou title

The big mover this week was former world No 3 Marin Cilic, who won the Hangzhou Open title. The Croat started the tournament as world No 777 but climbs all the way to No 212 after winning his 21st career title and becoming the lowest-ranked player to win an ATP singles title.

The Croat has spent most of the past two seasons on the sidelines due to injuries.

Zhang, Shang and Bu all make big moves in the top 100

Elsewhere in the top 100, it’s a banner week for the Chinese men on the ATP rankings list with three of their players now being ranked inside the world’s top 100. 27-year-old Zhizhen Zhang moves up seven spots to No 41; 19-year-old Juncheng Shang jumps up 15 spots to a career-high No 52 after winning the Chengdu title; and 22-year-old Yunchaokete Bu rises 28 spots to break into the top 100 for the first time at No 96.

Other big movers inside the top 100 include Spain’s Jaume Munar, up 12 spots to No 62; Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann climbing 13 spots to No 82; and Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin jumping 12 spots to No 100.
