ATP rankings: Shelton at new career best, Monfils back in Top 100
There are some massive moves in the men’s rankings this week
Ben Shelton gets all the plaudits in the ATP Rankings this week, rising four places to world No 15, a new career high for him as he wins his first ATP title in Tokyo.
The Mountain took out compatriot and fifth seed Tommy Paul in the quarter-final, and fought his way through at least one tiebreak set in each round before the final.
Alexander Bublik, the Bublik Enemy, also climbs, up six places to world No 30 after winning the European Open. He is closing in on his previous career best, world No 25.
Marcos Giron of the USA is up 22 places to world No 57 after reaching the Tokyo semi-finals. He claimed some notable scalps on the way – Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals, and Casper Ruud in the round of 16, all after coming through qualifying.
Pavel Kotov breaks the top 100, rising 28 places to world No 81. This is his career best so far and comes after a run to the final in Stockholm, where the 24-year-old beat Christopher Eubanks, Lorenzo Sonego, Tallon Griekspoor and Miomir Kecmanovic.
And Gael “La Monf” Monfils is at world No 89 after winning the title in Stockholm – climbing 51 places to return to the Top 100 for the first time since January. Aged 37 years, one month and 21 days, he is the oldest winner in Stockholm’s half-century of history.
