Canada’s Denis Shapovalov was pushed out of the Top 100 in the ATP rankings update on Monday despite his Davis Cup Finals heroics in Manchester. France’s Quentin Halys jumped ten spots to enter the Top 100, affecting Shapovalov’s position.

The ATP Top 10 remained unchanged as Jannik Sinner held the pole position courtesy of a glorious triumph at the US Open. Sinner’s reign on the top during the seven days following the New York Major helped him overtake former Flushing Meadows champ Andy Roddick in terms of most weeks spent as the world No 1.

The Italian now ranks 19th in the all-time tally with 14 weeks of grip on top spot that began in June this year. He’s one place behind ATP No 5 Daniil Medvedev, who has spent 16 weeks as the world No 1 thus far.

This is how the Top 10 stand after the update on Monday (September 16, 2024):

  1. Jannik Sinner — 11,180 points
  2. Alexander Zverev — 7,075 points
  3. Carlos Alcaraz — 6,690 points
  4. Novak Djokovic — 5,560 points
  5. Daniil Medvedev — 5,475 points
  6. Andrey Rublev — 4,645 points
  7. Taylor Fritz — 4,060 points
  8. Hubert Hurkacz — 4,060 points
  9. Casper Ruud — 4,010 points
  10. Grigor Dimitrov — 3,965 points

Denis Shapovalov began the past week as the world No 100 but Frenchman Quentin Halys’ recent efforts on the ATP Challenger Tour changed the singles Top 100.

Halys completed an inspired run at Open de Rennes as the second-best to Britain’s Jacob Fearnley on Sunday. He lost the title clash to Fearnley 0-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Sunday in Rennes.

Halys, ranked 108 last week added 50 points to his account as the runner-up and jumped to world No 98, pushing Shapovalov to 101st spot. Shapovalov, otherwise, enjoyed a fruitful Sunday in Manchester as he helped Canada pip Great Britain in the Davis Cup Finals, winning against Dan Evans.

On the other hand, American tennis sensation Brandon Nakashima saw his credentials on the ATP singles circuit improve. Nakashima benefitted from Argentina’s Mariano Navone sliding down four spots from world No 36, pushing the American up to 39th spot.

Nakashima impressed the tennis world by producing a run to the Round of 16 at the recently concluded US Open. He climbed to his previous career-best ranking of world No 40 after the decently successful run in Queens.

Another American in the form of Aleksandar Kovacevic attained his career-high rank of world No 72 after Belgium’s Zizou Bergs slipped one place.

Christopher O’Connell biggest mover in Top 100

The biggest mover of the week in Top 100 turned out to be Australia’s Christopher O’Connell, who staged a comeback win against Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro in the Guangzhou Huangpu International Tennis Open’s final 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5).

O’Connell earned 84 points with the triumph and promoted himself 12 places to reach 75th position in the ATP rankings.
