ATP rankings: Rune rises above Sinner to career-high
Holger Rune continues to climb the ATP rankings and Andrey Rublev has significantly bolstered his place in the Race to Turin standings.
Holger Rune didn’t manage to finish off Andrey Rublev in Sunday’s Monte-Carlo final, but the rising Dane still hits a new career-high in this week’s ATP rankings based on his trip to the final.
The 19-year-old is the biggest mover inside the ATP’s top 10 this week, but it’s Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff who is the biggest riser inside the top 100. The 32-year-old took a trip to the quarter-finals at Monte-Carlo and jumps 36 spots.

Rune career-high (+2)
Many tennis aficionados – and Holger Rune himself – have speculated about the emergence of a new Big 3 in men’s tennis that would feature Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Rune. A peek at this week’s ATP rankings makes the case for Rune, who has leapfrogged Sinner (after defeating him in the semi-finals at Monte-Carlo) and risen to a career-high ranking of No 7.
Rune, who will turn 20 on April 29, is 18-8 on the season. He also climbs five spots in the ATP’s Race to Turin standings, rising from 16 to 11. He is scheduled to play Munich this week, where he is the top seed and defending champion.
Rublev (+7 in the race)
Winning a maiden Masters 1000 title didn’t change his current position in the rankings, but Andrey Rublev did make a significant move in the Race to Turin standings. The Russian, who defeated Rune in Sunday’s Monte-Carlo final 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, jumps seven spots to No 5. He is currently just 15 points behind No 4 Carlos Alcaraz.
Jannik Sinner also picked up a spot in the Race to Turin standings, rising to No 3.
Struff the biggest riser (+36)
Reaching the quarter-finals at Monte-Carlo for the first time has done wonders for Jan-Lennard Struff’s ranking. The German was close to being bounced from the top 100 this week, but he rises 36 spots to No 64.
Lehecka, Shelton hit career-highs
Jiri Lehecka continues to climb the ATP rankings at a rapid clip. The 21-year-old pops six spots to No 36 thanks to a trip to the round of 16 at Monte-Carlo. American Ben Shelton lost in the first round at Monte-Carlo but still picks up two spots, to a career-high 37.
Shelton was outside the top 500 at this time last year.
Lehecka was No 99 at this time last season.
