Australian Jordan Thompson advanced to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International after Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 4 seed, withdrew before the match on Thursday.
Thompson, ranked No 55, will face the winner of the match between Australian wildcard Jason Kubler and Spanish wildcard Rafael Nadal next.
In the previous round, the Australian beat Aleksandar Vukic (6-3, 6-2) while Humbert, ranked No 20, won against American qualifier Alex Michelsen (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round.
