ATP Brisbane: Mpetshi Perricard beats Mensik to reach semi-finals

The Frenchman will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic, the top seed, and American Reilly Opelka in the next round

Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard moved into the last four of the Brisbane International by defeating Jakub Mensik 7-5, 7-6 (5) at the Queensland Tennis Centre on Friday.

Mpetshi Perricard, ranked No 31, will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic, the top seed, and American Reilly Opelka for a place in the final. This is the third career semi-final for the big-serving Frenchman.

The 21-year-old Frenchman edged out Australian Nick Kyrgios (7-6 (2), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3)) and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 4 seed (6-4, 7-6 (4)) earlier in the week.

In the previous round of the tournament, Mensik, ranked No 48, won against Kazakh qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin (7-6 (3), 6-4) and Serb lucky loser Dusan Lajovic (6-3, 6-2).
