ATP Auckland: Fils makes back-to-back quarter-finals to start the year

Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 6 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Auckland Open by defeating Portuguese Nuno Borges 6-2, 6-0 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Wednesday.
Fils, ranked No 35, will face German Daniel Altmaier next in what will be his second consecutive quarter-final to start the 2024 season.
The 19-year-old Frenchman won against defending champion Richard Gasquet (6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory, and is yet to drop a set in Auckland.
In the previous round of the Auckland tournament, Borges, ranked No 66, won against American qualifier Alex Michelsen (0-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3).
