ATP Auckland: Bergs beats Nardi to advance to last eight

The Belgian will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena in the next round

Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs beat Italian qualifier Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic in Auckland on Wednesday.

Bergs, ranked No 66, came from 4-1 down in the second set to close out the win in straight sets. He will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena next at the ASB Tennis Arena.

The Belgian won against New Zealander wildcard Isaac Becroft (6-3, 7-5) ahead of his win today.

In the previous round of the tournament, Nardi, ranked No 90, benefited from the retirement of No 6 seed Flavio Cobolli (6-2, 1-1).
