ATP Auckland: Basavareddy scores first Top 25 win and reaches first ATP quarter-final
The American qualifier edged out defending champion Alejandro Tabilo 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the second round on Tuesday
American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy edged out Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the second seed and defending champion, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Auckland Open on Wednesday.
This marked the first Top 25 win of the young American’s career and his biggest win on tour to date. It also marks his first ATP Tour-level quarter-final where he will face either American Alex Michelsen, the No 8 seed, or Italian Lorenzo Sonego next at the ASB Tennis Arena.
In the previous round of the tournament, the 19-year-old American defeated Argentinian lucky loser Francisco Comesana (6-2, 6-2).
