Atlanta Open: Composed Wolf beats compatriot Cressy, sets quarterfinal against Koepfer
J.J. Wolf won against Maxime Cressy 7-6 (7), 6-3 on Thursday night. He’ll play German Dominik Koepfer in the next round
No 8 seed J.J. Wolf advanced to the quarter-finals of the Atlanta Open by beating Maxime Cressy 7-6 (7), 6-3 early on Thursday evening.
It was a composed performance by world No 46 Wolf, who weathered an impressive serving performance from Cressy in the opening set. Deep in the first set tiebreak Wolf also saw two set points come and go, before wrestling the momentum back and winning the set on his third attempt.
The second set was a little more straightforward, with Cressy double faulting twice at one stage, giving Wolf an opportunity to break. The 24-year-old did not look back, and has now set a quarterfinal date against Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.
In the previous round, Wolf won against qualifier Jason Jung (6-2, 6-1), while Cressy, ranked No 105, won against last week’s finalist Alex Michelsen (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round.
