Tiafoe remains perfect against Nakashima, advances to semi-finals in Atlanta
Frances Tiafoe won against Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-2 on Friday night. He’ll face the winner of the match between No 6 seed Jenson Brooksby and second seed John Isner in the next round
No 4 seed Frances Tiafoe advanced to the last four of the Atlanta Open by defeating No 8 seed Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-2 at the Atlantic Stadion on Friday night.
Tiafoe, ranked No 29, will play the winner of the match between No 6 seed Jenson Brooksby and second seed John Isner next.
Tiafoe improves to 4-0 against Nakashima, with all four meetings coming on hard court. Nakashima has gone 1-9 in his last ten matches against top-30 players.
The trip to the semi-finals marks the first time since 2018 that Tiafoe has reached the last four on home soil since he made a run to the Delray Beach Open title in 2018.
Frances Tiafoe won against Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel (7-5, 6-4) in the previous round.
Earlier in the tournament, Nakashima, ranked No 56, won against Australian Jordan Thompson (7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3) and Australian John Millman (7-6 (8), 6-4).
