American wildcard Ben Shelton advanced to the second round of the Atlanta Open by winning against Indian qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-2, 7-5 at the Atlantic Stadion on Tuesday evening. Ben Shelton, ranked 281 at the ATP, is the reigning NCAA singles champion. It is his first win on the ATP Tour. His next opponent will be John Isner.
